Sugar? Fat? Salt?  Find that healthy balance!

Eating well is definitely a bit of a balancing act. You don't need to be a goodie-goodie 24 hours a day, but if you want to stay healthy, it definitely makes sense to try to stick to a few basic guidelines when considering your diet:

  • Try to base meals around starchy foods like wholegrain bread, cereal, rice, pasta or potatoes
  • Eat at least five portions of fruit or veg a day – in fact, the more the better
  • Keep active to help burn off calories and keep your weight in check – find out more about exercise
  • And, of course, get to know your GDAs – aim to stay pretty close to your GDA for calories but try to eat no more than your GDAs for sugars, fat, saturates and salt.
But remember, you don't have to stop eating your favourite foods just because they're high in calories, sugars, fat, saturates or salt. Just be aware of what you're eating and try to balance things out throughout the day. Which, of course, is where GDAs and the What's Inside Guide can help!
